Unfortunately, for his character, he was shot and paralyzed in season 4.&nbsp;<\/p><div id=\"caree-3807892270\" class=\"caree-within-the-content caree-entity-placement\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/careerinlaw.net\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/10\/MRF-169650-in-article-336x280-1.png\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/careerinlaw.net\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/10\/MRF-169650-in-article-336x280-1.png 448w, https:\/\/careerinlaw.net\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/10\/MRF-169650-in-article-336x280-1-300x250.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" width=\"448\" height=\"373\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Degrassi\u2019s former cast and crew recently came together to talk about the show and reflect on some memories. All was well, until James Hurst, one of the show\u2019s writers remembered that Drake apparently threatened to sue to have his character removed from the wheelchair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a letter from a law firm in Toronto, and it was from Aubrey [Drake],\u201d the writer said. \u201cIt was an odd letter that said, \u2018Aubrey Graham will not return to Degrassi season six as Jimmy Brooks unless his injury is healed, and he\u2019s out of the wheelchair.\u2019 I said, \u2018Get him down here.\u2019 He came in and was like, \u2018What letter? I don\u2019t know about that.\u2019 And I said, \u2018All right, I understand. But how do you feel about the wheelchair?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Drake told Hurst that he was afraid of looking soft and it was not a good look for his rap career, \u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018All my friends in the rap game say I\u2019m soft because I\u2019m in a wheelchair.\u2019 And I said, \u2018Well, tell your friends in the rap game that you got shot. How much harder can you get? You got shot, and you\u2019re in a wheelchair.\u2019 He was like, \u2018Yeah, yeah.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Lauren Collins, another cast member, added, \u201cI think (Aubrey) struggled, just physically with having to all of a sudden do everything confined to a chair. That was really hard for him, I definitely have a few memories of him toppling the chair over and falling off of makeshift ramps that they\u2019d constructed for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[There\u2019s] the apprehension of having your character confined to a wheelchair, or even not really feeling like it\u2019s right to be portraying someone who is confined to a wheelchair if you\u2019re fully-abled yourself.\u201d Drake\u2019s best friend in the show, Shane Kippel, said.<\/p>\n<p>The issue was eventually resolved between Drake and Hurst, the writer added, \u201cHe was so nice and apologetic about everything. He instantly backed down\u2026I said, \u2018Aubrey, there\u2019s some kid somewhere in a wheelchair, who\u2019s completely ignored, who\u2019s never on television, never gets represented. I need you to represent this person. You\u2019re the coolest kid on the show, and you can say there\u2019s nothing wrong with being in a wheelchair.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The show eventually allowed Drake to gain some mobility by putting his character through surgery that allowed him to stand using crutches. What do you think of the possible reasons, is one more likely than the other, and are they justifiable when balanced against the idea of
